Our Charity Shops

Bury Hospice runs 5 shops and a furniture warehouse across the Borough, which accept and resell goods from members of the public. Our charity shops are our lifeline, raising approximately 20% of our income, all of which goes towards patient care.

We depend entirely on the generosity of the local people in donating items for sale.

Please take your donations to any of our shops during opening hours. For larger furniture items or if you have a lot of things to donate, please call our warehouse to arrange a collection on 0161-725-8405.

We need your donations

Please take your donations into your nearest shop or our warehouse during opening hours.

For larger furniture items or if you have a lot of things to donate you can arrange a collection by telephoning our warehouse on 0161 725 8405. (Please note that all settees, easy chairs etc. must have a fire retardant label attached.).

What items can you donate?

We are always looking for good quality donations of:

  • Furniture and electrical items
  • Clothes for women, men and children
  • Books
  • Shoes & handbags
  • Accessories (including ties, belts and jewellery)
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Children’s toys
  • Homeware / bric a brac

We’re extremely grateful for every donation but unfortunately there are a few items we can’t either sell in our shops or, recycle.  Donations that are broken, dirty, or do not comply with trading standards and are unusable have to be thrown away and this costs the charity money. Please be aware that our drivers may come out to you and, on seeing your items, have to tell you we are unable to accept them.

Gift Aid on donated goods

If you are a UK tax payer, we can increase the value of your donated goods, through the government’s Gift Aid scheme. This means that everything we sell is worth an extra 25% to us, at no additional cost to you!

So if we sell an item for £5.00, we can reclaim an additional £1.25, increasing its value to £6.25. This extra revenue will make a massive difference to us and will enable us to support more and more people living with a terminal illness in Bury.

Ask in one of our shops for further details about gift aid on donated goods.
