“I was born and bred in Bury, and have lived here most of my life, apart from a few years in nearby Radcliffe and then Bolton. I started oil painting many years ago, as a hobby and for ‘relaxation time’ from looking after four children. I like to paint steam trains, landscapes, and have done a few portraits when I tried using pastels. I like different crafts, sewing, knitting, and now, modelling with clay.
My first ‘gnome’ I made was for a Christmas present. I was told I had breast cancer just before Christmas 3 years ago, and had a mastectomy. Now Christmas time is the time I need to go and have my annual checkup. Crafting is a much-needed distraction from what can be an anxious time. I hope people enjoy the ‘quirkiness’ of the little figures and support the Hospice.”
