Gerry Halpin MBE
“After recently stepping down from my role as President of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, I was able to spend more time to concentrate fully on my painting.
In this exhibition, my paintings are interpretive and reflect both the moorland landscape and the enjoyment of the watercolour and ink media I have used. Compositionally, my interest, from my walkabouts, has been in discovering enigmatic commonplace objects which are often overlooked, such as broken fences, tumble down dry stone walls, telegraph poles, hedgerows and bare trees which I draw firstly in the sketchbook (this is an important part of the process) and then paint from those sketches back in the studio. I have painted professionally since 1990 and for a number of years during that time I taught art part time at Bury Grammar School Boys. My paintings are widely exhibited in private galleries and collected by clients from around the world.”
