🥾 Saturday – The BIG Challenge!

Enjoy an early breakfast before setting off on your 34km Highland adventure!

The walk begins at the eastern end of Newtonmore village, following the Speyside Way towards Kingussie. The route passes the Highland Folk Museum before continuing along the trail towards the historic remains of Ruthven Barracks.

On entering Kingussie, we make our way towards the Barracks. There is an opportunity to take a short diversion to one of the bird hides overlooking the beautiful RSPB Insh Marshes Reserve, a great chance to enjoy the local wildlife and scenery.

Leaving the marshes behind, the route continues through an area of mixed woodland before reaching the bridge over the River Tromie. From here, we pass through small settlements, enjoying lovely open views west towards the Monadhliath Mountains.

On reaching Insh, we head into the forest towards the picturesque Uath Lochans, a beautiful spot surrounded by woodland and mountain scenery.

From the Lochans, the route continues into Glen Feshie. This section takes us past the historic remains of the old hamlets of Corarnstoleg and Baileguish, before bringing us back towards Drumguish.

Once back at the bridge over the River Tromie, we will follow a section of the Badenoch Way before rejoining the Speyside Way. From here, we retrace our steps, travelling back through Kingussie towards Newtonmore.

This is a varied and scenic walk, taking in historic landmarks, peaceful woodland trails, beautiful lochs, riverside paths and spectacular Highland views. Along the way, walkers will have plenty of opportunities to appreciate the landscape, wildlife and heritage of Badenoch.

Enjoy breakfast together before heading home with fantastic memories and a real sense of achievement.
