Bury Hospice is an independent charitable organisation dedicated to delivering high-quality specialist palliative and end-of-life care. We collaborate closely with other hospices, NHS partners, local authorities, and third-party organisations to ensure the best possible care for our patients and their families.
Bury Hospice is committed to conducting all aspects of its work ethically and with integrity. We maintain a rigorous recruitment and selection process, as outlined in our recruitment and selection policy, to ensure that all staff are employed freely and legally. Our volunteers, whose contribution is essential to our service, are also recruited through a similarly thorough and transparent process.
Our organisational values and safeguarding policies provide clear guidance and expectations for all staff and volunteers. These policies are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice. Our Adult Safeguarding Policy includes specific reference to modern slavery, ensuring that this critical issue is explicitly addressed.
All staff and volunteers are required to undertake mandatory safeguarding training, which encompasses awareness and understanding of modern slavery and human trafficking as global and local concerns. Bury Hospice does not tolerate any form of modern slavery within its organisation or within any partner organisations with whom we work.
The wellbeing of our patients, staff, and volunteers is a central priority. Bury Hospice is committed to operating as an open and transparent organisation. We have clear governance processes in place to manage, investigate, and escalate any concerns or identified risks, including those related to modern slavery. Such concerns are escalated as appropriate to senior leadership, our Board of Trustees, or external authorities.
We also carry out trend analysis through data monitoring to inform safeguarding strategies and risk mitigation. This Data is used on a continuous basis to:
Collect and examine data over time — for example, records of concerns or incidents reported by staff, volunteers, or service users.
Look for patterns or trends — such as an increase in safeguarding concerns in a particular area, time period, or related to a specific issue (like modern slavery).
Analyse and help us to improve how we protect people — by adjusting our policies, training, or support processes based on what the data reveals.
Help us reduce risks — by identifying and acting on potential problems before they become serious issues.
Through these measures, Bury Hospice remains vigilant and proactive in upholding the principles of human rights, fairness, and dignity across all aspects of its operations.
