Bury Hospice Sportsman’s Dinner
March 11th 2022
Bury Hospice held its inaugural Sportsman’s Dinner at The Stables in Bury on Friday March 11th and raised an incredible £21,000 towards the Hospice.
Over 150 local business men (and a few ladies) enjoyed a great night of entertainment and fun. The proceedings began with an interview with the guest of honour football legend Sam Allardyce, described by Sir Alex Ferguson as “One of the greatest characters of the game.” Interviewed by Paul Horrocks, Trustee of the Hospice, Sam talked about his early years, his playing days and his time in football management. Funny, honest and enlightening Sam entertained everyone with his anecdotes and stories.
Following a 3 course meal, Dr. Kevin Jones, the Consultant Comedian, had the audience in hysterics recounting his hilarious medical encounters up and down the country.
The Grand Auction offered an incredible range of prizes including flying lessons, boxing packages, wakeboarding, signed sporting memorabilia, shooting, sports events and concerts. The Tombola had over 90 prizes - so nearly everyone was a winner.
Alison Holland, Head of Fundraising said, ”Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, everything on the night was donated for free, so all profit went directly to the Hospice and we would like to thank everyone who attended, donated prizes and gave so generously. This especially includes Sam Allardyce and Dr. Kevin Jones, who both gave their time for free, sponsors Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall and PM+M, Chris Buckley for the sound system, Kingsland Drinks, Compudal, Full Circle Print - and Ron Wood, Financial Options Group and Ribble Packaging for their generous donations. Everyone had a fantastic night and we look forward to holding the event again next year in aid of Bury Hospice.”
