Epic Everesting Challenge for Bury Hospice

Challenge for Bury Hospice

Members of 360Cycling have completed a unique challenge which has seen youngsters cycle the equivalent of Everest in just 22 hours to raise vital funds for Bury Hospice.

The challenge, known as Everesting in the cycling world saw the children ride up and down a steep hill gaining altitude each lap until the height of Everest was reached.

One recording device was used and was swapped around riders recording altitude gains with only one rider gaining altitude at any one time.

Fifteen Under-12s took part in the challenge at Holy Mount Lane in Greenmount.

The children from 360cycling trained hard for the event which took place on Saturday, May 14th.

The event was organised by Simon Diggins and Joe Cadwallader. Simon said: “The Everesting challenge was completed in 22 hours. Honestly, we are overwhelmed with the positive attitude from both kids and parents involved. The team spirit flowed throughout the event with the support given by local riders and volunteers to help across the board is quite special. We really did doubt if it was even possible for fifteen riders with an average age of eight, to be completed within 24 hours. The whole event will be an everlasting memory for all the young riders involved.”

They have raised over £4,000 for the Hospice. The JustGiving page is still active at www.justgiving.com/campaign/360cyclingeverestingchallenge
