On Saturday 7th March, Bury Hospice held its annual fundraising ball, in celebration of 35 years of palliative and end-of-life care in the community.

The luxurious ball, which was headline sponsored by CI Group, and supported by several other organisations, welcomed 297 guests to the Last Drop Village Hotel, in Bolton.

The attendees were able to fundraise in style, as compere and auction host, David Dockerty, of Bolton FM, guided them through the night’s proceedings.

The ball was full of energy, with live music from popular band, Radio Edit, leading people to the dancefloor.

The nights’ raffle draw proved a tremendous success, with attendees vying for the chance to win a stunning 18ct white gold diamond ring. And the much anticipated live auction saw bids excitedly placed for the chance of becoming a part of a special legacy of care in our community.

Some of the fantastic prizes and experiences on offer included: a family retreat to the Lake District; a private tour of the Coronation Street and Hollyoaks sets; and a unique afternoon tea for two with journalist and Bury Hospice Ambassador, Victoria Derbyshire.

Likewise, the silent auction also included top-notch items including football shirts signed by legends, Pele and Diego Maradona, as well as a signed and framed photo of singer, Adele.

Suzanne Hall was the keynote speaker on the night.

She shared the story of the care her husband, Billy, received at the hospice, following his cancer diagnosis, last May.

Suzanne said: “Trying to express my love and gratitude for Bury Hospice feels impossible. From the moment Billy was admitted to Room 9, he received care that can only be described as angelic.”

“I had to let go of caring for him myself and trust complete strangers with his every need during the final weeks of his life, but those strangers quickly became our lifeline.”

Suzanne’s powerful testimony highlighted the importance of ensuring that our hospice services are sustainable and remain free at the point of use.

Peter McDonald, owner of headline sponsor, CI Group, said: “The care Bury Hospice provides to patients and families in our community is truly exceptional, and the compassion shown by the staff and volunteers make a lasting difference to so many lives.”

“It is a privilege for CI Group to stand behind this event and celebrate the remarkable work Bury Hospice does every single day.”

Having so many people at the ball, united in the purpose of fundraising for our worthy cause was truly impactful.

Laura Marinelli, Senior Events Fundraiser at Bury Hospice, said: “Thank you to all the amazing attendees, sponsors and volunteers for overwhelming us with your generosity, and time in the lead up to the ball and on the night. We really couldn’t have done it without your support and dedication to Bury Hospice.”
