Birds in memory of loved ones to appear on a memory tree in the centre of Bury

Memory Bird Summer Memorial Logo

Our Summer Memorial is a pivotal moment in the Bury Hospice calendar. This year, birds in memory of those we love and miss are to appear on a memory tree in the centre of Bury.

The bird is Bury Hospice’s logo and can be seen on the large donor wall in the Hospice, designed by local artist, Robert Cox. The concept behind Robert’s design are the six townships we care for across the borough including Bury, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington and Whitefield depicted by the six ribbons, each in a colour to match the six colours of the bird logo. Robert stated: “The vision is ‘dynamic’, the bird is a free spirit and the continuity of the Spirit of those who have gone before.”

The Hospice has commissioned a limited number of birds that will be created by GJ Plastics in Radcliffe who supply the hearts for our heart wall. They have supported the Hospice for many years. The birds will be made using the same colours and acrylics as the hearts we have on display. The birds can be dedicated in memory of someone special. Each bird will carry a small inscription or name of a loved one.

This is an opportunity for the people of Bury to remember the life of someone special to them. Anyone can dedicate a bird, you don’t have to have experienced our care first hand at the Hospice.

We are inviting everyone to take part in our Summer Memorial, which will take place in August. All of the birds will be on display and once the display has ended, the birds can either be collected from the Hospice or will be posted to you.

Memories stay with us forever and we hope our memory bird appeal will help our supporters remember and celebrate the lives of someone special to them.

Director of Income Generation, Graham Richardson added: “I am proud Bury Hospice has developed this lovely concept as we know how much it means to our community to remember a loved one. Each donation for a bird will also help Bury Hospice continue to deliver for our community. So please do place a dedication and there are no limits to the number of dedications, as we want our memory tree to be a splash of colour and a beacon of remembrance for all who see it.”

To purchase a bird, visit our event page or call the fundraising team on 0161 797 1748. We are asking for a suggested donation of £15, which will help us to continue to deliver first-class end-of-life care and support to patients and their families across Bury.
