Ever since she began working at Bury Hospice four years ago, Rachel Duncan (Retail Operations Manager), has always wanted to do a thrilling fundraising challenge.
After biding her time, she has now decided to descend 170ft down Trafford Palazzo in Manchester to raise vital funds for the hospice.
Rachel said: “I’ve seen some amazing fundraising within the hospice, and I just thought it was my turn.”
“It’s my turn to brave it and raise some money!”
Initially setting her fundraising target at £500.00, Rachel soon upped the amount when her supportive friends and family helped her meet her goal within the first week.
Now pushing to raise £1,000, she is excited to get her first ever charity challenge underway.
She said: “It’s my first time doing an abseil. I don’t even know if I like heights or not but we’ll see once I’m up there.”
Rachel is doing the abseil with her sister-in-law, Krisila O’Neill, who convinced her to give the challenge a go.
Also a keen supporter of Bury Hospice, Krisila recently joined Rachel to get stuck in with painting the hospice interior, as it underwent a huge re-decorative transformation, in April.

The brave and supportive pair are spurring each other on to reach their individual targets.
Rachel, having never been one to say ‘no’ to a challenge, has already set her sights on doing some other future fundraisers, including a bungee jump, next year.
She said: “I never get a chance to do these sorts of things but I think they are good for me because I get the chance to see if I actually do like action and adventure.”
“I’ll give anything a go once.”

Bury Hospice Abseil takes place on Sunday 29th June, at Trafford Palazzo, Trafford Centre.
