Pop-Up Plant Shop Offers Peace and Tranquillity

Pop-Up Plant Shop Offers Peace and Tranquillity

A new pop-up plant shop, offering seasonal flowers and foliage at the best prices, has opened at Bury Hospice.

The flower nursery is part of an overall three-year strategy to improve the hospice garden grounds in efficient and sustainable ways.

Over the past two years, the amazing hospice volunteer teams have helped to transform the gardens, saving approximately £40,000 to date.

By keeping this maintenance in-house, Bury Hospice has been able to re-direct these annual savings towards supporting vital patient care.

The support of Mark Concannon, manager of Heaton Park Garden Centre, has been instrumental.

Mark has kindly donated two-year’s worth of plants and flowers to help the hospice achieve its goals.

This generous donation was the springboard to Bury Hospice entering the RHS North West in Bloom competition, last year, where it receive an ‘outstanding’ rating.

Now, the hospice is exploring ways in which the flowers can be purchased at no cost to the organisation or Mark going forward.

The Pop-Up Plant Shop is located in an area, which offers a sense of tranquillity and peace to patients and loved ones.

All are welcome to explore the range of gorgeous flowers, potted plants, and hanging baskets, on Mondays-Fridays, 10.00-3.00pm, to make purchases at leisure.

In efforts to achieve a fully sustainable garden model, Mark is already looking at the next step, which involves growing the plants in a new location, from where they can be distributed to the pop-up shop and sold to raise essential funds; ultimately keeping the gardens going long-term.

The initial trial for the gardens has grown organically, opening up new and exciting ways of increasing sustainable income for patient care and support.

Bury Hospice is grateful to everybody involved in getting the gardens to this point, particularly Mark, and the individual and corporate volunteers, who have put a lot of time and heart into maintaining them.

The hospice is now looking for more volunteers to get involved in caring for the plants and manning the pop-up shop for a few hours or days a week.

By joining the volunteer team, you’ll be part of enhancing a peaceful and purposeful garden space, which supports wellbeing, connects the community, and raises vital funds.

The Bury Hospice Pop-up Plant Shop is open, Monday-Friday, 10.00-3.00pm
