Community comes together to remember loved ones.
On Friday 28th March, Bury Hospice held its bi-annual remembrance service – Time to Remember, at The Fusilier Museum in Moss Street, Bury.
Families came together to celebrate their loved ones at the beautiful service, which included readings, poems, music, and a candle lighting ceremony which offered a special space for reflection and remembrance.
Bury Hospice provides bereavement support throughout the year for anyone who needs help coping with grief. This includes two Bereavement Drop-in Cafes (one on the third Tuesday of each month held at Tesco, Bury, and the other held on the last Wednesday at Radcliffe Library), as well as a weekly Walk and Talk Group – all open to anyone aged 18 and over.
These are informal groups, offering company, a time to chat and the opportunity to develop friendships.
Participants gain the chance to share how they feel, which helps to prevent the isolation often felt after a bereavement.
Chris Green, Bereavement and Family support Lead at Bury Hospice, said: “It's really important that people have an opportunity to come back to the hospice and celebrate the life of the person who's died, and to do it in community with other people who've also had support from the hospice.
“To be in a room with lots of other people who’ve experienced loss, and to be sharing photographs and lighting a candle is really important. The service allows you to come back to meet the nurses who cared for your loved one, and to meet the CEO, trustees, and volunteers.”
“The regular Walk and Talk group is a really good way for people to get a bit of a routine into their week, meeting with other people, getting some fresh air out in nature, and also sharing food at the end of it.”

Bury Hospice also offers the Sunflower Group, a bereavement service that supports children aged 5-11, as well as their parents or carers.
This support group was launched in partnership with Child Bereavement UK to help children through their grief by giving them an opportunity to explore their feelings, express their emotions, share memories and develop resilience through creative activities.
