Helen Lockwood, CEO of Bury Hospice, has announced her plans to retire at the end of the year.
Helen joined the hospice in 2021 from a background in local government for over 34 years. She joined as Bury Hospice embarked on a new chapter to expand its services and strengthen its links with Bury partners, thus enabling the hospice and its partners to meet the needs of the local community.
Under Helen’s leadership the hospice is now well established within the Bury locality, and as the joint Chair of the Palliative and End of Life Board for Bury, she has made sure that the hospice plays a key role in end of life care across the borough, supporting and helping as many people as possible.
Helen said: “The hospice is such a special place to so many people within Bury. I think once you have been involved you can never fully leave. It has been an honour and a privilege to be able to work alongside some incredible colleagues, trustees, and volunteers.”
“The next few months will be a busy time for the hospice and we are all focussed on making sure we do well for Bury; this will be my priority for the time leading up to Christmas.”
The Chair of Trustees, Chris Claydon-Butler, has said of Helen’s departure: “Helen has been a trailblazer in securing a strong future for Bury Hospice. She has built good foundations and a great management team which will ensure the hospice will go from strength to strength.”
“Whilst we are all sad to see Helen go, we know she will continue to support the hospice in a different capacity. We wish her a happy and healthy retirement alongside her Husband, Daughters and Granddaughter.”
A programme of recruitment for Helen’s replacement will be announced shortly and the Board and Helen are committed to ensuring a smooth transition.
