Bereavement support group launched at Radcliffe Library

A support group has been launched at Radcliffe Library to help people who have suffered from bereavement.

The sessions are being run by Bury Hospice, with support from the council, and will give residents the chance to get out and meet new people, share how they feel and reduce the isolation often felt after a bereavement.

The sessions are open to everyone and will be held on the last Wednesday of each month at Radcliffe Library on Stand Lane between 5pm and 6.30pm.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 25.

There will be the opportunity to find out more about mindfulness and access to complimentary therapies.

The hospice plans to invite guest speakers to talk about issues such as will writing and the undertaking service, to help prepare people for such eventualities.

Hospice chief executive Helen Lockwood said: “We are delighted to be working with Bury Council to expand our bereavement services to more people across the Bury at a very difficult time in their lives.

“Our new drop-in group is open to everyone and will provide a safe, inclusive space for local residents to come along and chat with our bereavement team and others in similar circumstances.

“We hope that this service will help to support more people in the local community and bring some comfort to those who need it most.”

Cllr Richard Gold, cabinet member for finance and communities at the council, said: “Bereavement is one of the most painful times in our lives and sadly many more of us have experienced this recently.

“With the help of Bury Hospice we are hoping to bring people together to support each other in difficult circumstances, share experiences and meet others who may be feeling the same, in an informal surrounding with staff on hand to provide a cuppa and a listening ear.”
