Making Magical Memories

You can make a huge difference by donating to the Bury Hospice Christmas Appeal

Bury Hospice has launched its Christmas Appeal, which will help make the festive season an extra special one for our patients and their families.

For many people, Christmas is an exciting time to spend with loved ones but sadly, for some patients living with a life-limiting illness, it will be their last Christmas spent with their family.

At this special time of year we are asking for your support to help create magical memories for our patients and their loved ones.

Can you support patients at Bury Hospice?

As an independent charity, it costs £4 million to run our services. With just a 13% contribution from the NHS, the remainder is generated via support from the community, including: donations; regular giving; fundraising; legacies, and by playing our weekly lottery.

We have created a special ‘wish list’ of ways patients at Bury Hospice can benefit from your help.

A donation of:

  • £5 could pay for a Christmas bubble bath for a patient
  • £10 could pay for a three-course Christmas dinner
  • £15 could pay for a complementary therapy session for a patient or their loved one
  • £20 could pay for a patient’s loved one to join them for Christmas dinner

Items on the wish list can be bought as a virtual gift on behalf of a family member or friend.

Bury Hospice is open 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year. The staff working over the Christmas period are privileged to be doing what we can to care for, and support our patients and their loved ones.

Ameer Hussaine, a cook at Bury Hospice, said: “I am really excited to be able to work on Christmas day because there’s nothing more I love than feeding patients with delicious home-cooked food.

“It’s important for patients and their families to be able to have normality, such as having a Christmas dinner at a difficult time in their lives.”

This Christmas Appeal is a seasonal way for people to donate money to Bury Hospice. We are using the digital platform, Visufund, which offers supporters the opportunity to pledge donations and create tributes filled with beautiful words and photos.

Reading all of the heart-warming dedications on our online Winter Stars page serves as a way of capturing precious memories, and is an important reminder of why we need to ensure that our care services are sustained for the benefit of the local community.

Healthcare Assistant, Sophie, said: “Christmas here is all about our patients and their families, and making sure we can make special memories they can treasure.

“It’s also lovely to be able to spend time with those patients who haven’t got families or are unable to see them at Christmas – hopefully we can help them to enjoy the day.”

All donations will help us to continue delivering vital end-of-life care and support to our patients and their families this Christmas.
