Staff members at Bury Hospice are preparing to run the Santa Dash 2023, to raise funds that will support the hospice’s vital care services.
Bury Hospice is hosting the novelty fun run on Sunday 17th December, in collaboration with the outdoor events and educational organiser, The Sunnywood Project, which is based in Burrs Country Park, where the race will be taking place.
Nellie Savory, Inpatient Unit Clinical Lead at Bury Hospice, will be at the starting line with her running team, the Christmas Belles.
Nellie recently ran the Bury 10K in October and is now ready to take on the 5K Santa Dash course next month.
She said: “I think it’s a bit of fun, there are other members of the team doing it, and it’s also a bit of team building.”

Nellie views the race as a perfect opportunity to raise the profile of the hospice.
She said: “It’s about us [the team] giving back, as well as people donating to us [the hospice], so it’s about making us visible out there.”
An avid runner, Nellie goes running a couple of times a week in preparation for the race. She hopes that if people see the hospice staff participating in the Santa Dash, it will help to dispel any associations of the hospice being a ‘scary place.’
She added: “Despite the word ‘hospice’, it is a happy place – people have happy memories of here. The Santa Dash is all about raising funds that will go towards making a difference for our patients.
“The funds aren’t just for the Inpatient Unit but for the whole hospice in general.”

People of all racing abilities are encouraged to join in the fun run and to dress up in a comfy Christmas-themed costume that they can run, jog, or stroll in.
There is no registration fee to take part in the race but participants must pledge to raise a minimum of £50 in support of the hospice.
All registered racers will get a free Santa hat, which Bury Hospice would kindly welcome donations for. The hats will also be sold to attendees not taking part in the dash.
Non-alcoholic mulled wine will be provided and participants could be in with a chance of winning some exciting prizes in the Santa Dash raffle.
