Bury Hospice CEO Helen Lockwood and Ambassadors Liam and Connor McCheyne Took Part in Bury Hospice’s Firewalk

A Coronation Street star and his twin brother joined more than 20 people in walking on fire in aid of Bury Hospice.

Liam McCheyne - who plays Dylan Wilson in ITV soap - and his brother Connor, have completed a Firewalk at Woodbank Cricket Club in support of the Hospice.

The 16-year-old Hospice ambassadors walked on fire as part of their latest fundraising effort.

The twins have amassed just over £3,600 for the Hospice.

As well as raising some money, the pair said they hope their efforts will spread positive news about young people doing good things for the community.

Liam said he couldn’t believe how many people came to show their support.

Speaking before the walk last Thursday, he said: “Now I'm here, I'm a lot more nervous than I was.”

“I hadn't had time to think about it properly with messaging people and trying to get everyone involved but I’m feeling it now.”

In the days leading up to the walk, Connor was also made an ambassador to the Hospice after dropping off a donation from churches.

Liam said: “It was great for me to have Connor on board, we have always done things together and we can continue that on with the Hospice.”

"We both aim to show positivity among young people in local communities and try and end the stigma that surrounds teenagers.”

The group did two laps of the Firewalk as crowds gathered to watch.

Each walker was then presented with a certificate.

CEO Helen Lockwood said: “When the Firewalk idea came up I thought it was amazing. I didn’t realise they meant for me to do it!”

“It has been fantastic though, we are raising the profile of the Hospice and having fun too.”

“I'm going to have to frame and laminate my certificate but I recommend everyone puts a Firewalk on their bucket lists!”

Connor, who was the first person to take on the heated walk, said: “It has been an amazing day and I conquered my fear of doing a Firewalk.

“I’m so happy to support Bury Hospice at Woodbank Cricket Club and it is something I will never forget."

Also participating in the walk were five members of the North Manchester General Hospital pharmacy team.

Sukhveer Singh said the group had raised more than £1,000 for the Hospice.

She said: “It was a good experience, we had a wobble at the start but we have done it as a team."

“It is for a cause that means a lot to our colleague Christine so we have been here to raise some money and support her.”

Liam and Connor have since visited the Hospice to present a cheque for £3,600.75 from the money they raised from the Firewalk.
