Long-Serving Bury Hospice Volunteers Honoured at Awards Ceremony

A large part of the success of Bury Hospice has been down to those who have looked to make a difference – our volunteers. On Friday, February 24th, we celebrated the amazing contribution our volunteers have made by honouring them with their long service awards.

CEO Helen Lockwood with Chair of the trustees

Fundamental to Bury Hospice is a culture of volunteering and over the years, we have been fortunate enough to have built up a dedicated workforce of 268 volunteers whose presence can be found within every service and department of the organisation.

There were 48 of our volunteers with a combined length of service of 465 years who received an award. They were: Angela Ball, Rev Hugh Bearn, Kathleen Caren, Margaret McFadden, Ian Morris, Jean Mundy, Janet Hargreaves, Pat Morley, Aiden Poole, Carman Sinkinson, Sandra Boswell, Graham Brown, Anne Cassidy, Chris Coates, Hannah Cropper, Margaret Dilger, Valerie Gilpin, Diane Manship, Therese Neary, Patricia Norris, Susan O’Neill, Patrick Rafferty, Jim Richardson, Ross Richardson, Derek Roe, Margaret Slater, Elaine Standring, Maureen Walker, Sheila Wilkinson, Deborah Lisle, John Alcock, Tim Boaden, Tracey Connell, Tony Davies, Donald Fenton, Tanya Fielding, Elaine Fraser, Christine Gerezdi, Andrew Gill, Rosie Goldwill, Jeanne Gornall, Vera Hilton, Andrew Hopkinson, Joanne Hopkinson, Valerie Martleton, John McFadden, Barbara Muir and Anthony Wilkinson.

The length of service shows how once they volunteer, they love being a vital part of the Hospice.

Long service awards afternoon tea

The event was our way of showing how much they mean to us. The volunteers enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea prepared by our team of catering staff and volunteers.

As our services grow and develop, we pride ourselves in creating new and exciting volunteer roles that not only help to improve operational efficiency but can also enhance the experience of those that we support and care for living in our local community.

The support from our volunteers continues to make such a positive impact on our operations, staff morale and of course to the patients that we support and their loved ones.

Not only do volunteers save us a huge amount of money each year through the time that they selflessly dedicate to us but each volunteer brings with them their own special contribution, which we are grateful for.

In terms of our current recruitment drive, we are actively searching for volunteers to work in our charity shops across Bury including Bury town centre, Radcliffe, Prestwich and Ramsbottom.
